报告摘要

Vortex shedding in the wake of a cylinder in uniform flow can be suppressed via the application of a porous coating; however, the physical mechanism is not fully understood. The internal flow field of a Porous Coated Cylinder (PCC) can provide a deeper understanding of the interaction of the local flow field and the porous material structure and the resulting external flow field. A Structured PCC (SPCC) was 3-D printed using a transparent material and tested in water tunnel facilities using tomographic particle image velocimetry at an outer diameter Reynolds number of 7.3×104. The internal and near-wall flow fields are analysed at the windward and mid-circumference regions. Flow stagnation is observed in the porous layer on the windward side and its boundary is shown to fluctuate with time in the outermost porous layer. This stagnation region generates a quasi-aerodynamic body that allows the development of a boundary layer on the SPCC inner diameter. The boundary layer develops around the circumference and separates within the porous layers. For the first time via experiment, spectral content within the separated shear layer reveals vortex shedding processes within the porous layers, providing strong evidence that SPCC vortex shedding originates from the inner diameter. Velocity fluctuations linked to this vortex shedding propagate through the porous layers into the external flow field at a velocity less than the freestream. The Strouhal number linked to this velocity accurately predicts the SPCC vortex shedding frequency.

报告人Elias Arcondoulis博士简介

Dr. Elias Arcondoulis is a Research Assistant Professor (研究助理教授) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (南方科技大学) in Shenzhen, P.R. China. Elias obtained his PhD in experimental aeroacoustics under the supervision of Prof. Con Doolan at The University of Adelaide (阿德莱德大学) and moved to Shenzhen in May 2017. Elias conducts research in passive flow and noise control of cylinders using porous media with Assoc. Prof. Yu Liu (刘宇副教授), in addition to acoustic beamforming array design and airfoil tonal noise at low-to-moderate Reynolds numbers. He has collaborated across the globe with TUDelft, B-TU Cottbus, Adelaide University and Hong Kong PolyU and welcomes future collaborations. In February 2023 Elias will commence as a lecturer in experimental aerodynamics at the University of Bristol (布里斯托大学).
