应土木学院武岳教授的邀请，受引智项目资助，英国曼彻斯特大学季天健教授将于近日来访我校并做报告，欢迎感兴趣的师生参加。

季天健教授简介：

季天健教授是结构动力学领域的专家，他的研究方向集中在人致结构振动领域，主要工作是研究大跨度楼板、看台等结构，在不同运动形式的人体作用下的振动规律。他采用试验与理论相结合的方式，研究了行走、奔跑、跳跃等运动形式下人体对结构施加的荷载，以及结构的响应。季教授在上述领域已经发表超过100篇论文，此外，季教授结合自己在科研、教学与实践中对结构概念的感悟，写成了教材“Seeing and Touching Structural Concepts”，现已由高等教育出版社翻译出版，名为《感知结构概念与体系》。

Abstract

Experimental and theoretical studies are two types of investigation used in science and engineering. They can be conducted independently, but the two types of study have complementary characteristics which provide a basis for their combined use. Can the combined use be modelled for a better use of the two types of study?

Stimulated by some modelling ideas in Economics, this talk will demonstrate six qualitative models describing the relationships between experimental and theoretical studies based on observations and experience. The six relationship models are the comparison model, integration model, verification model, explanation model, creation model and extension model. Each relationship model is illustrated using a simple diagram with basic characteristics and supported by two real examples from research and engineering practice. The understanding of the relationship models would help to extend existing research and to improve the quality of research.
