From Oct ober 19 to 21, the 15th National Seminar on Concrete Structure Teaching and the 5th National Young Teachers' Competition on Concrete Structure Teaching, sponsored by the Education Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, were held in Xi'an. More than 200 experts participated in the meeting including University presidents, College (department) leaders, structural masters engaged in concrete structure design and front-line teachers' representatives from nearly 100 universities all over the country. The teaching seminar has fully exchanged, discussed and demonstrated the teaching reform, classroom teaching, teaching ideas, teaching methods and experience of concrete structure course. During the meeting, 41 young teachers from 29 universities including Harbin University of Technology, Tongji University, China University of Mining and Technology, National University of Defense Science and Technology participated in the National Young Teachers' Competition on Concrete Structure Teaching. Competition includes two links: on-site lecture and demonstration teaching. The content of lecture is determined by drawing lots on the spot, and the content of demonstration teaching is determined by the players themselves. In order to ensure the fairness of the competition, the judges and groups are decided by drawing lots on the spot, and the scores of the players are announced on the spot. Dr. Yan Jiachuan from the School of Civil Engineering, HIT won the first prize in the teaching competition with outstanding achievements, and won the honor for Harbin Institute of Technology. 

In addition, 57 papers were selected into the collection of teaching and research papers published by Xi'an Jiaotong University Press. Among them, the paper Experimental Teaching Practice of Concrete Structure Design Principles were awarded excellent thesis prizes, which is published by Dr. Yan Jiachuan, Prof. Zou Chaoying and Dr. Hu Qiong. And 14 other papers were also won award.

Dr. Yan Jiachuan, Associate Professor, Master Tutor, got the faculty position in the School of Civil Engineering, HIT in 2013. He passed the assessment of undergraduate classroom teaching access, and the certification of teaching qualification of the main lecturer in 2014. He compiled 4 textbooks and published 4 teaching papers.
